Good Morning Sargent Community!

The PTO hopes everyone had a great weekend!

Sargent has LOTS going on in the next several weeks!  Please make sure you read below for all details on:
Mama Mia Pasta Ria, Sargent Night Out at Merrimack Men's Hockey, the Fall Book Fair,  Gingerbread House Making Night, Snowman Day for 5th Graders, and Understanding Our Differences workshops (volunteers needed)!

Together with NAMS and all other elementary schools in North Andover, we will be helping to collect items for Care Packages to be sent overseas to our troops.  A bin will be in the main entranceway of Sargent until 11/27.  Please view this flyer to find out what items are needed!  Thank you in advance for your caring and generosity!


Mama Mia Pasta Ria! This Wednesday!

On Wednesday, November 20th, our 5th graders will be hosting the Mama Mia Pasta Ria at North Andover High School!  

The MMPR is the prime fundraiser for the 5th grade class, and proceeds fund all the 5th grade activities for their final year at Sargent.  Join us for a delicious Italian feast of salad, pasta, meatballs, and dessert, along with the best entertainment in town (Sargent’s 5th grade class!).  Come, and bring the whole family!


There will also be exciting raffle items, as well as a silent auction!  The 3 seating times are 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00 pm. Times slots fill up very quickly, so make sure you sign up now to get the seating of your choice.

Volunteer at the Fall Book Fair!

It's almost time for Sargent School's Scholastic Fall Book Fair! The Book Fair will take place from Monday, December 9th, through Friday, December 13th.  We need volunteers to make our Book Fair a success!

Family Gingerbread House Making at Sargent!

Kick off your holiday season and join us for this special Sargent PTO family event.  Come make a Gingerbread house (or two!) in the Sargent cafe! This event will coincide with extended Book Fair hours on Thursday, December 12th.  
Gingerbread house seating times will be 5:30 or 6:30 pm, and the cost is $15 per house.  

Please register for this event by 12/5/19 by clicking here.   Select your time, and the number of houses you wish to decorate.  Payment can either be made by sending a check payable to “Sargent PTO” in an envelope marked Gingerbread House Event, OR by Venmo (@sargentpto).  If using Venmo please include family name and "Gingerbread House Event".  
This is always a terrific night for families!


Understanding Our Differences: Volunteers Needed For Next Programs at Sargent!

Volunteers are needed for the following UOD programs at Sargent:

11/21:  Chronic Medical Conditions (3rd Grade) 8:45-10:45 am
12/10: Physical Disability (4th Grade) 8:45-10:45 am

UOD reinforces our RAISE values, increases tolerance, reduces bullying and fosters respect, acceptance and compassion for people of all abilities.  The curriculum covers autism, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and chronic medical conditions such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy.  Detailed information on each unit will be sent to parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students prior to the day of the event and is also available on the UOD website.

The UOD program is presented by parent volunteers, and volunteers are needed at all North Andover schools! This is an excellent opportunity to share time in the classroom with your own child or to get to know other parents and students, and it encourages friendship and empathy for people with disabilities in our community.   You can volunteer at ANY school in town- it does not have to be the school your child attends!  Questions and additional information regarding volunteering for UOD can be directed to UODofNA@gmail.com.  No experience with disabilities is necessary! Sargent Night Out at Merrimack Men's Hockey!


We are excited to announce that we are once again hosting a Sargent Night Out at Merrimack Men's Hockey on Saturday, November 30th at 7:00 pm.  This game was a big hit last year and a great time was had by all. 
 After the game, the kids are invited out on the ice to skate with Merrimack players! 

 The Warriors were kind enough to offer us a discount of $5 off per ticket!  Tickets are $10 rather than $15.
Different this year: We do not have a section set aside for just Sargent.  However, please purchase tickets in Section 1 to sit with your Sargent friends.  Use code SARGENT at check out for our discount.

5th Grade Families! Please mark your calendars for Snowman Day on Monday, December 16th, from 9:45-10:45 am. 
All parents are invited to come to Sargent and help kids with Sargent School’s annual 5th grade winter project.

Sargent Lost and Found
Please remember to check Sargent's Lost and Found, which is located just outside of our cafeteria.  Missing something?  Email Brenda at brkrafft@gmail.com and she will keep an eye out for you.  Trying on those boots from last year soon?  As you start pulling out your family's winter gear, check that everything has a name on it.  If we can identify an owner, we can return it to you.

Sargent School Drop Off/Pick Up Procedure 
Our main goal is to safely and efficiently welcome and dismiss all of our students daily. Thank you all in advance for your efforts.  Please click here to view the map.

Drop Off 
  • Please use Johnson Street (not Abbot St.) to enter and exit the school. There is NO entering or exiting from Abbott Street between 8:00 - 8:30 am. 
  • Drop off time begins at 8:10 am. Please do not drop students off before 8:10 AM as there is no supervision before that time. 
  • Pull your car all the way up as far as you can go before dropping your child. 
  • DO NOT PASS cars in line at drop off. Please wait until the car in front of you moves forward 
  • Students should exit from the passenger side only. 
  • Please note there is NO parking on Abbott Street at any time. 
  • There is no parking in handicap spots. 
Pick Up 
  • Please use Johnson Street (not Abbott St.) to enter and exit the school. There is NO entering or exiting from Abbott Street between 2:35 - 3:10 pm. 
  • All cars must have a Sargent issued name placard visible. If you do not have one you will be asked to park and enter the building to sign out your child with identification. If you need a placard please contact the school secretary and one will be provided to you. 
  • Students will enter cars from the sidewalk and enter cars on the passenger side only. 
  • DO NOT PASS cars in line at drop off. Please wait until the car in front of you moves forward.

North Andover Schools Enrichment Council 
NORTH ANDOVER SCHOOLS ENRICHMENT COUNCIL is a volunteer-run, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Founded in 1986, their mission is to support, strengthen and enrich the North Andover school curriculum by providing in-school cultural and educational programs in the Sciences and Humanities.  North Andover Schools Enrichment Council (NASEC) is supported by North Andover PTOs, grants, and generous private donations.  It is comprised of representatives from each of the five elementary schools and the middle school.  Our Sargent Elementary NASEC representatives are Lisa Meldrim and Maureen McLean. To find out more information about NASEC, visit their website or check them out on Facebook too!  Please click here for the list of NASEC shows at Sargent this school year!

NAPAC

Thank you to those who registered their Stop and Shop Cards and participated in this program for the 2018-2019 school year! We earned $2106.15!! This is terrific! This program is now up and running for the 2019-2020 school year! CURRENT supporters DO NOT need to re-register their Stop & Shop Card in September. NEW supporters DO need to register their Stop & Shop Card via their personal online account.

New Supporters or Existing Supporters Wishing to Make Changes: Visit stopandshop.com and select SIGN IN at the top right to log into your online account. Bay State Textile Bin 
Are you in the process of a back-to-school closet clean out?  There is a white Bay State Textile bin located in the Sargent parking lot to collect household items that may otherwise be discarded, lugged to another bin, or put out on the curb. Please consider donating your items into this bin!  The contributions are weighed and Bay State Textiles sends a rebate check monthly to the school based on the weight of the donation.  Help support our school while also cleaning house! Click here for more information on Bay State Textiles.  Their flyer for North Andover schools can be found here.

North Andover Food Rescue 
The Food Rescue is up and running!  They have added the new ABECC to their rotation, meaning they now rescue food at every public school in North Andover!  They could really use your help!  The North Andover Food Rescue is looking for volunteers to help collect and distribute uneaten, unopened food from the Sargent cafeteria- a shift of only 20 minutes can make a huge difference for many people in our community!  To read more about the Food Rescue and how it works, click here.  You can also visit their website.  If you have any questions, please e-mail Kristi Hale and Jess Belongia at nafoodrescue@gmail.com.  Thank you for your continued support!

North Andover Foundation for Education
The purpose of the North Andover Foundation for Education (NAFE) is to provide the public schools of North Andover with the resources necessary to enhance curriculum, programs, and services beyond those that are supported in the annual budget.  It is the goal of the foundation is to provide additional educational opportunities for students and teachers to support the North Andover Public Schools in cultivating a community of engaged learners, insightful thinkers, and effective communicators.
