Good Morning Sargent Community!

Please join us at our monthly PTO meeting this Wednesday, January 16th, at 7:00 pm in the Sargent library to discuss exciting events planned for this spring!  These events include Winter Carnival, the Art Fair, Breakfast Buddies, and Teacher Appreciation!  Parent involvement is what makes our PTO so great!

Thank you so much to all who donated to our post-holiday coat and boot drive to benefit The Wish Project!  Seven large bags of coats and boots will be brought to the Wish Project today, and in addition, we were able to donate about a dozen coats to the people who lost so much in the recent boat fires in Charlestown, MA.  Your generosity is much appreciated!

Attention: 5th Grade Families!
Just a reminder to 5th Grade Families to upload pictures of your child for the 5th grade memory book! The memory book committee is looking for:
  • One baby picture- ideally, less than 1 year old.  This will be cropped as a close-up for a fun “Guess Who” section.
  • Kindergarten through Grade 5- a picture of your child with friends in each grade.  The kids love the pictures of themselves with their friends, so find a favorite from each grade and submit!
  • Photos from 5th Grade Activities: Tide Pool, Squid Dissection, Snowman Making, Mama Mia Pasta Ria, etc.

As always, this event cannot be possible without volunteers to help the PTO run it!  We need volunteers to help decorate the school, hand out popcorn and pretzels, help with crafts and games, and much more!  Please sign-up to volunteer for a shift if you are able!  We very much appreciate your help!

Payments for carnival tickets made via check or cash should be sent to the school with your child.  We also accept Venmo! (@sargentpto)  Please CLEARLY mark all payments with “Winter Carnival”, family name, and number of children attending.  Payments may also be dropped off directly in the marked box in the Sargent front office.

your CORI needs to be completed prior to your coming to the school.  Please download and fill out the form, 

and return it in person to the main office at Sargent.  CORIs need to updated every 3 years!

Additional Information to Note:

Winter Jubilee and Sweetheart Dances!

Winter Jubilee for 4th and 5th grade girls and their adult guests will be held on Fri. January 25th from 7:00 to 9:30 pm.
Sweetheart Dance for 2nd and 3rd grade girls and their adult guests will be held on Sat. January 26th from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm. 

Both dances will be held at the North Andover Middle School. 
Tickets may be purchased at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3919264. 
Tickets are $25 per couple and $10 per additional girl when purchased in advance. 

Please consider Forgetta's Flowers (978 682-3885) for corsages and boutonnieres as they kindly donate centerpieces that are raffled at the end of the evening.  Don't forget cash or checks for raffle tickets and photography!

Bring a donation of any size for the North Andover People's Pantry and receive 1 free raffle ticket per couple.  
The People's Pantry has suggested soup or a box with hot chocolate envelopes. 

Understanding Our Differences
Please help us keep this program going in North Andover! Without volunteers, the Understanding our Differences program for grades 3-5 will not be possible.  UOD reinforces our RAISE values, increases tolerance, reduces bullying and fosters respect, acceptance and compassion for people of all abilities. The curriculum covers autism, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and chronic medical conditions such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy. Detailed information on each unit will be sent to parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students prior to the day of the event and is also available on the UOD website.

The UOD program is presented by parent volunteers, and volunteers are needed at all North Andover schools! This is an excellent opportunity to share time in the classroom with your own child or to get to know other parents and students, and it encourages friendship and empathy for people with disabilities in our community. You can volunteer at ANY school in town- it does not have to be the school your child attends! Questions and additional information regarding volunteering for UOD can be directed to UODofNA@gmail.com. No experience with disabilities is necessary! All training takes place online and can be completed in under twenty minutes. If you can help, please click here and add your name to any of the program(s) this year. NAPAC is conducting several surveys this year to gather parents' feedback on special education issues in North Andover. We need your input! If you have a child on an IEP or 504 plan, please take our short survey. All responses are confidential.

Sargent Lost and Found
Please remember to check Sargent's Lost and Found, which is located just outside of our cafeteria.  It is already quite full and we are out of hangers!  There are over 100 unlabeled coats and jackets currently in the Lost and Found, which means there is a 20% chance that something belongs to your family! We make every attempt to get items in the Lost and Found back to their owners, but anything that has been there more than 3 weeks will be donated!

Please continue to clip your Box Tops! Additionally, PLEASE check expiration dates!  We have received many expired Box Tops. A full listing of products that contain Box Tops can be found here.  Keep up the great work!  Happy clipping!

Stop and Shop A+ School Rewards - Please register your card for the 2018-2019 school year! Money for Sargent every time you shop! This program will begin on September 7, 2018.  Please register your rewards card at School Rewards. Our 5-digit school ID is 06277. You’ll need your 13-digit Stop & Shop Card number and the School ID # to register.   More information on how to register your card can be found here.

To earn points:  Use your Stop & Shop Card each time you shop at Stop & Shop and you will earn CASH for our school. You can track the number of points you are earning for our school by checking your grocery receipt starting September 7, 2018 through March 16, 2019.  At the end of each month, your points are calculated and converted to CASH rewards. These CASH rewards for our school are updated monthly. You can track our progress when you sign in to your online account.  Our school will receive one CASH awards check at the end of the program and can use this cash for our educational needs.  Please take a moment to register your Stop & Shop Card today! Don’t forget to tell your friends and neighbors to do the same!

Bay State Textile Bin 
Are you in the process of a back-to-school closet clean out?  There is a white Bay State Textile bin located in the Sargent parking lot to collect household items that may otherwise be discarded, lugged to another bin, or put out on the curb. Please consider donating your items into this bin!  The contributions are weighed and Bay State Textiles sends a rebate check monthly to the school based on the weight of the donation.  Help support our school while also cleaning house! Click here for more information on Bay State Textiles.  Their flyer for North Andover schools can be found here.

North Andover Food Rescue 
The Food Rescue is up and running smoothly for the 2018-2019 school year.!  They have added the new ABECC to their rotation, meaning they now rescue food at every public school in North Andover!  They could really use your help!  The North Andover Food Rescue is looking for volunteers to help collect and distribute uneaten, unopened food from the Sargent cafeteria- a shift of only 20 minutes can make a huge difference for many people in our community! To sign up for a shift, please click here. North Andover Schools Enrichment Council 
NORTH ANDOVER SCHOOLS ENRICHMENT COUNCIL is a volunteer-run, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Founded in 1986, their mission is to support, strengthen and enrich the North Andover school curriculum by providing in-school cultural and educational programs in the Sciences and Humanities.  North Andover Schools Enrichment Council (NASEC) is supported by North Andover PTOs, grants, and generous private donations.  It is comprised of representatives from each of the five elementary schools and the middle school.  Our Sargent Elementary NASEC representative is Robyn Delaney, and she can be reached at delaneyrobyn@gmail.comTo find out more information about NASEC, visit their website or check them out on Facebook too!

North Andover Foundation for Education
The purpose of the North Andover Foundation for Education (NAFE) is to provide the public schools of North Andover with the resources necessary to enhance curriculum, programs, and services beyond those that are supported in the annual budget.  It is the goal of the foundation is to provide additional educational opportunities for students and teachers to support the North Andover Public Schools in cultivating a community of engaged learners, insightful thinkers, and effective communicators.

Marker Recycling
All around Sargent, students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located in the art room and outside the cafeteria for your child to deposit the markers. Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out that used marker— ColorCycle it!
