Good Morning Sargent Community!

Our January PTO Meeting will still be this Wednesday, January 15th, but the time has changed!  It is now at 9:00 am in the Sargent data room, which is at the end of the first floor hallway, in the former kindergarten classroom area. Dr. Gilligan will be joining us to speak about the recent NAPS budget meeting.  PLEASE COME to this important meeting if you are able to!

5th Grade Parents!  Please keep reading below for important information on both Winter Carnival volunteering, and Memory Book information!

Stay tuned for upcoming news on Sargent's Winter Carnival, which will be held on Friday, February 7th.

Next NASEC Show at Sargent! This Week!
Museum of Science: Now Hear This, Grade 4
Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14th at 9:00 am, Grade 4 will attend a special Enrichment Council program; Museum of Science: Now Hear This.  In this traveling program performed in the Sargent School cafeteria, our 4th grade students will learn about vibrations and how changes in their frequency and amplitude result in different kinds of sound. They'll hear a sonic boom (location dependent), test whether sound can travel through a vacuum, and see a wine glass shatter solely due to sound.
If you'd like to volunteer to provide minimal support for set-up, break down and attend with the 4th-grade class, please click Volunteer for this Show You do not need to have a child in the 4th-grade to volunteer.  Learn more about the NA Enrichment Council.

In Memoriam
The PTO was honored to make a donation to the Every Child Fund at Boston Children's Hospital in loving memory of Sargent student Eva Rodrigues, who sadly passed away on December 31st.  Eva was a second grader in Mrs. Clough's multiple supports classroom, and she will be dearly missed by everyone at Sargent School.

Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are again needed for the following Understanding Our Differences programs at Sargent

2/06/20- Deafness Program (3rd Grade) 8:45-10:45 am.

Click the sign up link to volunteer.

Understanding Our Differences
UOD reinforces our RAISE values, increases tolerance, reduces bullying and fosters respect, acceptance and compassion for people of all abilities.  The curriculum covers autism, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and chronic medical conditions such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy.  Detailed information on each unit will be sent to parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students prior to the day of the event and is also available on the UOD website.

The UOD program is presented by parent volunteers, and volunteers are needed at all North Andover schools! This is an excellent opportunity to share time in the classroom with your own child or to get to know other parents and students, and it encourages friendship and empathy for people with disabilities in our community.   You can volunteer at ANY school in town- it does not have to be the school your child attends!  Questions and additional information regarding volunteering for UOD can be directed to UODofNA@gmail.com.  No experience with disabilities is necessary! All training takes place online and can be completed in under twenty minutes.  For more information on Understanding Our Differences, please click here.  Thank you so much for your support of this exciting program!

Be Sure to Check Out the Sargent Nurse's Page!

Let's try to stay healthy as a school this winter!

*Important 5th Grade Information!*
Memory Book Information and Winter Carnival Volunteering!

As a reminder, is time to start gathering digital pictures for the 2020 Grade 5 Memory Book. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this project, the Memory Book is a compilation of memories and photos of the class of 2027 during their elementary years. These pictures are similar in style to the candid class pages found annually in the yearbook. We are looking for ANY pictures taken of the children at school during the past 6 years. The deadline for pictures will be February 29, 2020.

Please use the instructions below to upload the following:

  • One baby picture – ideally, less than 1 year old.

  • Kindergarten through Grade 5  - a picture of your child with friends in each grade.  The kids love the pictures of them with their friends, so find a favorite from each grade to use.

  • Photos from 5th Grade Activities: Fun Run, Halloween, Snowman Making, Mama Mia Pasta Ria, etc.

When choosing photos, please note:

  • Only Sargent Class of 2020 students and teachers can be included in the Memory Book.   Other family and friends cannot be included.

  • The photos should be from Sargent events or field trips, not private events off-site

  • There are about 110 kids in the class to be included in the grade collage pages, so we will likely crop out backgrounds and scenery, unless adding context to a Sargent Memory.

  • Photos often appear darker on the collage pages – light/bright photos show more clearly than darker ones.

  • JPEG or PNG images can be no bigger than 5MB each

Here is how you can submit photos online, from either your computer or phone:

  • Go to: https://images.memoryebooks.com/login

If it does not automatically log you into the site, enter username: 414733685

  • Browse to select the photo(s) you wish to upload.

  • Please provide your child's First Name, Last Name, and Grade for each Photo. For the Baby Photo, please put "Baby" in the Description. This is very important!

  • Click "Save" Details".

Although the Memory Books are distributed in June, much of the work to make this book is completed in January. We look forward to working with you all on this project and hope to create a special book for these incredible kids.

Best regards,
Laurie Lawlor and Christine Gregory
Memory Book Co-Chairs

Winter Carnival 5th Grade Student & Parent Volunteers Needed
On Friday, February 7th the PTO is sponsoring its annual Winter Carnival. Once again the 5th grade class will provide a concession stand at the event!  They will be selling pizza, beverages and snacks. All profits made from this event will go towards their end of year events such as Brooks Day!

This is a service project for your 5th grader to donate their time and give back to Sargent.  This is optional but we hope that you will encourage them to participate. We are asking that each 5th grader sign up for a 30 minute shift to help out with this event. We will also need a handful of parents to help out as well.  A sign up form will be sent home in your 5th grader’s backpack over the next week or so. We have also attached it here for you to print. Please complete the below form and return to your child’s teacher by January 31st.

Or, you can click the following link below to sign up. Winter Carnival Sign-Up Your help is greatly appreciated!  Thank you!
